Local Server

Platform: 🖥️ Desktop only

How It Works

The local server creates a connection between all Navisport devices at the event venue. Devices on the same wireless network discover the server and connect automatically. The server also connects to the Navisport cloud service, so devices not on the local network can communicate via the cloud — the server acts as a bridge between local and remote devices.

The Connected devices list shows each device with an icon matching its type:

  • Mobile phone icon for mobile devices
  • Desktop icon for desktop applications
  • Circuit icon for other devices

For devices connected via the cloud service, a cloud icon (☁) and tooltip "Connected via cloud service" are shown.

Automatic Connection for Desktop Applications

Other Navisport desktop applications on the same network connect to the local server automatically — no QR code scanning needed. The QR code is only needed for connecting mobile devices.

One Server Per Network

Only one local server can run on a single local network at a time.

Starting the Local Server

  1. Open Local Server from the main menu.
  2. Click the power button to start the server.
  3. The server starts and displays a QR code for connecting mobile devices.

Note: If the computer is not connected to a network, a warning is shown: "Computer is not connected to a network". Connect the computer to a network and try again.

Connecting Mobile Devices

Connect mobile devices by scanning the QR code:

  1. Open the Navisport mobile app on your device.
  2. Scan the QR code shown on the local server page.

The QR code contains connection details so the mobile app can find and connect to the local server automatically.

Connected Devices

The Connected devices section shows all devices currently connected to the local server and whether they are connected locally or via the cloud service.

Stopping the Local Server

Stop the server by clicking the red power button at the bottom of the page and confirming.

Putting It Together: a Timing Network at the Event Venue

You arrive at the event center and set up the main computer. You open the local server and click the power button — a QR code appears. The finish line volunteer scans the code with their phone and connects immediately. Another computer at a checkpoint joins automatically via the same Wi-Fi network. Within minutes, all devices are connected and timing data flows between them. After the race, you stop the server with a single click.
