Event Monitor

Platform: 🖥️ Desktop only

See also: Results, Checkpoints, Online control, Announcer's window

Opening the monitor

Open the monitor from the event settings window by clicking Event monitor, or use the shortcut CTRL+M when the event settings window is open.

Layout

  • Left side: Event log — real-time log list of participant activity
  • Right side top: Status panel — tabbed view with class info, devices, rental chips, split times, and restarts
  • Right side bottom: Open DSQ proposals

In multi-stage events, a stage selection dropdown appears in the top bar. A clock is shown in the top right corner.

Event log

The event log shows every registration going on course and every incoming result. Data appears as soon as a mobile device (Online control or Reader mode) sends it to the server, or when a connected reader device processes a chip.

Each log entry shows:

  • Log time — when the entry was recorded
  • Status badge — participant's current status (clickable — change status via dropdown: Approved, Disqualified, Did not finish, Did not start, DSQ proposal, No time)
  • Bib number — participant's bib number (if set)
  • Name — participant's name (clickable — opens participant details)
  • Class — participant's class
  • Time — result time (for results)
  • Position — position in their class (for results)

Filtering the feed

Filter modes at the top of the log panel:

  • All — all log entries (registrations and results)
  • Start — only registrations going on course
  • Finish — only results

The search field lets you filter log entries by name, chip number, club, or bib number.

Rental chip indicator

Participants with a rental chip are shown with a red "L" badge next to their name.

Relay events

In relay events, the leg number is also shown for each log entry.

Status panel

The right-side status panel provides an overview of competition progress. You can open it in a separate window by clicking the window icon.

Class info

The Class info tab shows each class with the following data:

  • Class name — clickable, opens the results view. Turns green when all results have arrived.
  • Registered — number of registered participants
  • On course — number on course (clickable — shows the list)
  • Finished — number who have finished
  • Open — number of participants not yet finished (clickable in competition events — shows who hasn't finished)
  • Best missing time | Position — in competition events, shows what position the best participant still on course can achieve

Tip: When a class name turns green, all registered participants have either finished or received a status (Did not start, Did not finish, etc.). Review and publish the results.

Devices

The Devices tab shows:

  • Link status — checkmark if linked to this event, warning icon if not. Double-click the warning icon to link the device to the event.
  • Device name — clickable, opens device details
  • App mode — the device's current timing mode (Manual result service, Result service auto, Online control, etc.)
  • Battery level — percentage with color indicator
  • Reader status — whether the USB reader is connected (green = connected, red = no connection)

Tip: Check this tab before the first start. If a device shows a warning icon instead of a checkmark, it's connected to the server but not linked to your event — double-click the warning to fix it.

Remote device management

Click a device name in the device list to open the management window. From there you can:

  • Change the device name — type a new name and click away to save
  • Change the linked event — select another event or stage from the dropdown. "Not linked to event" sends the device back to the event list.
  • Change the app mode — select a mode (Manual, Start clock, Start list, Online control, or one of the Auto modes). The device switches directly to that mode bypassing setup screens.
  • Sync clock — synchronizes the device clock with the server
  • Refresh data — forces the device to fetch event data again from the server
  • Send logs — requests the device to send its local timing logs to the server
  • Log out — logs the device out and returns to the login screen
  • Speak — type a message and press Enter to have it read aloud via the device's text-to-speech function

The mode selector is only shown for mobile devices that have an event linked. Desktop devices cannot be remotely managed.

Tip: Remote mode switching bypasses confirmation screens and mode selection — the device goes directly to the active timing mode. Useful for quickly setting up multiple devices.

Rental chips

The Rental chips tab shows participants with rental chips, including chip numbers, class, and whether the chip is still active.

Split times

The Split times tab is shown when the event has checkpoints. It displays passings: time, checkpoint name, chip, class, participant, club.

You can filter by checkpoint, search, and delete individual passings.

Data arrives from mobile devices operating in Online control mode — each time a runner punches at a checkpoint, a passing appears on this tab.

Restarts (relays)

The Restarts tab is shown in relay events with changeover closing times. It shows classes with their changeover closing times and restart times for participants who have not yet started their leg. See Relay legs for detailed examples.

Each class row shows: class name (clickable — opens a window listing waiting runners with team name, name, and leg), changeover closing time, assigned restart times, and number of waiting participants.

When the changeover closing time has passed and there are runners who haven't started their leg, the class row turns green. A button appears at the bottom: Set restart times for participants — it sets restart times for all waiting runners in all ready classes at once and changes their status to "On course".

Restart times are also set automatically: when a result arrives and the system calculates the next leg's start time, if the calculated start time is after the changeover closing time, the restart time is used instead.

Handling DSQ proposals

The Open DSQ proposals section in the bottom right shows participants with "DSQ proposal" status. The number of open proposals is shown in the heading.

Each entry shows:

  • Status badge — clickable, allows changing the status directly
  • Bib number
  • Team name — in relay events
  • Name — clickable, opens participant details
  • Class
  • Missing controls — which controls the participant is missing

To resolve a proposal, click the status badge and select the final outcome — typically "Disqualified" if controls were genuinely missed, or "Approved" if it was a timing device error. Full guide: Results — DSQ proposal.

Tip: DSQ proposals appear as soon as a result arrives with missing punches. Handle them promptly — leaving them until later means you might forget what happened in the situation.

Quick actions

Global search (CTRL+F)

Opens a search window to find any participant across the entire event.

Big picture: Monitoring a live competition

  1. Before the competition: Open the Event monitor (CTRL+M). Check the Devices tab to confirm all devices are linked and battery levels are good.

  2. Starts begin: Filter to Start mode. Each runner's chip read appears in the log. The "On course" count in the Class info tab increases.

  3. Passings arrive: The Split times tab shows runners passing checkpoints. Data comes from mobile devices operating in Online control mode.

  4. Results arrive: Filter to Finish mode. Results appear with times and positions. In the Class info tab, "Finished" increases and "Open" decreases.

  5. DSQ proposal: A proposal appears in the bottom right panel with missing controls listed. Check the situation and click the status badge to confirm disqualification or mark as approved.

  6. Search: CTRL+F — find any participant by name regardless of class.

  7. Class complete: The class name turns green. Click to open results, review, and publish. The announcer's window shows the same results at the finish area.

  8. Late registration: CTRL+N — add a participant, set class and bib number.

  9. End of day: All classes green, DSQ proposals handled, rental chips (red "L") collected back.
