Barcode Check-in

Check-in workflow
At the check-in point, the process proceeds in three steps for each runner:
- Read barcode — The barcode reader reads the competitor's barcode and the system processes it automatically
- Verify competitor details — The system shows the competitor's name, team, and leg
- Read chip — The chip is read with the serial port reader and the data is saved automatically
After reading the chip, the chip number is saved to the competitor's data and the competitor's status is set to "On course".
Barcode format
| Format | Example | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
{number} |
42 |
Bib number only |
{number}-{leg} |
42-3 |
Bib number and leg |
{number}-{leg}-{sub-leg} |
42-3-1 |
Bib number, leg, and sub-leg |
The barcode reader may add extra characters (e.g. %0042-3). The system automatically removes extra characters and leading zeros.
Setup
- Open a relay event from the event list
- Select Barcode check-in
- Activate the serial port reader by pressing the USB icon in the top right corner (the icon turns green when the reader is active)
A progress bar appears at the bottom of the page when the reader is receiving data.
Handling warnings
If the competitor's status is other than "Registered" (e.g. already checked in or registration cancelled), the system shows a warning and check-in cannot proceed. This prevents accidental re-registration. Press Escape to cancel and move to the next competitor.
Manual selection
If the barcode is damaged or the reader cannot read it:
- Press the pen icon in the top right corner to open manual selection
- Select the team, leg, and optional sub-leg
In manual selection, you cannot select a competitor whose status is other than "Registered".
Keyboard commands
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Enter | Confirm barcode (if the reader does not send automatically) |
| Escape | Cancel and return to start (works at any step) |
Changing text size
The +/- buttons in the top right corner let you increase or decrease the view's text size. This only affects the check-in page.
Putting it together: Relay competition check-in morning
Competition day morning. You open the relay event, start barcode check-in, and activate the serial port reader. As each runner arrives, you read their barcode — the system shows the name, team, and leg. The competitor places their chip on the reader, the chip is linked to their data, and they are marked as on course. If a barcode won't read, you use manual selection. Within minutes the entire team is checked in and ready to compete.
